Paying Lipservice to a Cleaner Upper

Category: Bike BlogJohnny @ 7:34 pm

If you’re like me, and I know you are, you got all your TDF news this year from BikeSnob, HTABL, , etc.  Either way, you either don’t get Versus, you don’t know if you get Versus, or you just don’t care.

For those of you who didn’t watch or don’t care, Lance didn’t win this year.  In fact, US Postal didn’t even make a showing.  Instead the US team was a collaboration between my favorite GPS-enabled device company and my favorite part-McDonalds-owned burrito company.  And to think, their jerseys are only $100.

Yep, you guessed it!  Steve(n) Cozza shaved his moustache.

Here’s the before.

See he’s a popular guy.  Things are looking up.  He may or may not be standing on a podium.  And…

Here is looking all rad and argyle and shit during a time trial.

And another:

Then something happens!

He goes to Missouri!  WTF!?!??!?!

All hell breaks loose.

And he got 37th place.

Devin, here’s to you not following suit.  You can do it!

xoxo,

Johnny

Comfort Since 1866

Category: Bike BlogJohnny @ 2:01 pm

If you’re like me, and I know you are, you have that one retrogrouch friend who simply goes apeshit for the old stuff.

I’m talking bikes that look like this:

And bags & bars that look like this:

And, of course, finally a saddle such as this:

Enter the Brooks Bugle, 2009 edition.  The cover story retells and account of a man who travelled 500,000 km (or 310,685.596 mi) on a Brooks, a copmany that started in 1866

Then, run down to page 5 and see the article on the Shoreditch Bike Polo Invitational, which was part of the Shoreditch Festival a couple of weeks ago, happening every year in Hackney.  Watch a clip of the action.

And here’s how they do it stateside here in Dallas.  Apparently it was a BYOB event.  If you want, visit the Dallas Bicycle Polo site.

Who wants to give it a go while we let the trails dry?

xoxo,

Johnny

Flop, Flop, then Chop…Its a Flop!

Category: Bike BlogJohnny @ 9:17 am

If you’re like me, and I know you are, at least one in the herd is an old 10 speed with a fixed drivetrain and some kind of unconventional bars.  We do it because we have to, in case we ever have to ride in an ad-hoc alleycat or for a night on the town.

But we know our limits.  We don’t deliver items for pay via bicycle.  We transport our bicycles on our roof/hitch racks.  We are mountain bikers.

Many, however, in our beloved 940 are not like us, and for that alone we they do not deserve our respect.  Chuck is one of those unfortunate many (formerly few).

The fact that this poor sap could afford rattle can spray paint and a light braze-on for this bicycle but was unable to budget for a $15 package of bar tape from The Bicycle Path is neither here nor there.

Look at those bars!  Just look at how sad they are all wrong and down and such.  This is a bigger atrocity than wrongboards coming to 940.

He apprears to live over by Doran…over on the “east side” of the county seat.  If you see him around, please, do the right thing and tell him to get off my lawn!

This flop, flop & chop clearly is a flop.

xoxo,

Johnny

Cry Me a River

Category: Non-BikeJohnny @ 9:47 pm

If you’re like me, and I know you are, you know that Riverstyx can predict the weather.

He says, according to my best sources that the rain will quit, and the trails will dry…

…eventually.

In honor of River’s brilliance, but since I really don’t care for Styx, here’s a rockin’, rad, and rainy clip from before (and after) our time from GNR.

xoxo,

Johnny

P.S.  Current friends who go get a Slash and/or Axel Rose tattoo get bumped to the front of the line.
P.P.S. Fast-forward to 7:01 into the clip.
