And some of you will die.

Category: Bike Blog, Non-BikeJohnny @ 9:59 pm

If you’re like me, and I know you are, you like a good urban ride every now and then.  Of course, we’re not talking about last Tuesday’s ride that our own Keith and Go:ahead attended simply to impress the ladies.

Go:ahead says, “went last night for the first time, ran into keith there (not literally) but for the most part i was riding with my roommate who just got herself a peuguot (sp?). what a shit fest. it was a good thing i already had several tecate in me, the stress of riding with 60+ kids most of whom didn’t have blinkies was almost too much to bear. it was one hell of a social and i spread the good word of 32teeth, however i wont be going again until i find a rack-mountable cooler to help keep my sanity.”

Then Keith later says, “yep this is one fucked up ride man, I was joking about PR, daniel the guy I ride that with and I are only out there looking at ass… Its kinda dangerous and I dont like a lot of the stuff they do. In fact I locked my brakes up a few times because these kids dont know how to ride in packs, so they randomly just turn and cut you off when your going faster then they are. Also Katie the chick that used to work at the shop says that I was a dick running stop signs and cutting people off… not sure how I do this, when the entire mass never stops because of fixie road blocks and me and the other guy are the only ones that knew how to ride… period! We ride our mtbs because its a slow ride. Anyhow thats some of my thoughts on it.”

Whoa, there, boys.  Good rendition of some obvious ridiculousness.  Take pictures next time.  We all love to laugh at those less fortunate.

On another urban cycling note, thank you, Rupert Murdoch-owned New York Post, for summing-up our culture and way-of-life so beautifully.  Its hard to imagine a media outlet that he can’t fuck up.

Well, I hope you all humped the shit out of Wednesday in more ways than one.  Tomorrow we ride, the next day we drink, and then we ride again.  Can life get any better brothers and sisters?

So, in light of Devin’s recent video posts, I’ll leave you with a video of my only 2 brothers-in-law shooting none other than the Kalashnikov 1947, known to you and I as the AK-47.  Myself, I have shot paper terrorists at the same gunrange, firing the same weapon, behind my brother-in-law’s Helena, MT house, and I can attest, that we killed them until they died from it.

The bald, bearded one is my wife’s eldest brother, Drew.  The filmmaker/director, Baxter, is my wife’s younger older brother and will be staying with us through the weekend.

I truly hope you enjoy this film and others that Baxter has filmed.

xoxo,

Johnny

Ava “NoPants” Blaskovich

Category: Bike BlogJohnny @ 10:31 am

If you’re like me, and I know you are, you’re getting pretty sick of this nasty-hot weather we’ve been having, praying to the tooth fairy that the A/C doesn’t crap-out mid-August this year.

I’m reluctant to annouce that bike rides are now officially optional, and no longer mandated between 10 am to 7 pm, until further notice.

After a nice, long, hot family bike ride, my 2-year old daughter, Ava, decided that clothing was indeed optional.  I guess with the nasty hot Texas heat she figured she’d disrobe and enjoy the A/C.  Nevertheless, her mother and I decided that a post-ride naked snack would be allowed until she mentioned the word “potty.”

Gotta love the tan lines on that baby.

xoxo,

Johnny

Cat 2 Hits Coast, Racing Cat 5 in 940

If you’re like me, and I know you are, you like a good summer bike race.  And while Dolly’s dumping it out on South Texas, we’re looking at a high of 100 degrees on Sunday up here.  This race however, coincides quite inconveniently with the 26th annual Goatneck and Sparky’s rebel ride.

So, what do we do with this weekend that is already giving us such grief.  Well, the short answer is that the Crew will be riding bikes regardless.

I recommend doing whatever makes you happy because after all that’s the only valid reason to get on the bike.  I’m going to be riding with my family for some of the weekend.  Last night, as I rode into the driveway with Keith, JW and Wastaken after having a couple of beers and tacos, the first thing Ava said to me was “Daddy go ride bike.”  Then she proceeded to jump on her tricycle and try her damndest to ride down the driveway, out into the street.  Needless to say, that baby got the addiction early.  Luckily cycling is neither an expensive nor a time-consuming lifestyle.

In other Johnny family news, Ava now says “shit,” with increasing frequency.  As words consisting of four letters are hardly uttered in our house, I’m inclined to first blame that Mooney boy, then maybe the grandparents with whom she spent the weekend while we went to New Orleans.  Other than that, I’m out of ideas.

Its Wednesday, which is Hump Day, which only makes me think of Wet Hot American Summer in times such as these.  Ima go hump the fridge.

Go follow Pancho Villa’s instructions to the T: “Tonight we ride!”

xoxo,

Johnny
